It’s Official – Fall is Here!
Fall actually arrived almost a month ago. However, yesterday afternoon it became overcast and rain settled in for the evening. It was that constant, cold type of rain that makes one think of sitting by the fireplace with a good book and a cup of tea. It was a “snuggly” type of evening that found me on the sofa watching TV with Cali and having hot chocolate (Ovaltine) with ginger snaps.
Today, the sun is out but the weather is cool. (My furnace came on a couple of times last night.) This type of weather makes me nostalgic for Indianapolis fall outings to apple orchards and pumpkin patches. Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley summed it all up in his poem, “When the Frost is on the Punkin’.”
I need to go to Old Mesilla to photograph a tree that is always brillant with falling leaves this time of year. Maybe I’ll check it out at lunchtime. Update: The tree is still green and the leaves haven’t changed yet.
