Mixed Feelings…
It’s almost the end of July, and my first actual day back for the school year is August 9th. In some ways, I want to extend my vacation. However, part of me wants to be at home and sleep in my bed again. I want to visit my familiar coffee shop where I’m greeted and they know my order before I give it. I want to take a long, hot bath.
Traveling is wonderful, but there are small stresses that come with it. However, returning to “real life” will reveal a different kind of stress. One of my favorite books is “Blue Highways: A Journey Into America” by William Least Heat-Moon. A college professor with his life in transition, he travels for several months in a converted van he dubs “Ghost Dancer.” One of the quotes from the book is, “If you can’t make your life go right, at least you can just go.” Somehow, that speaks to me on many levels…

Thanks – I have enjoyed your journey, I will be leaving to go to Acapulco on the 8th for a short 4 day vacation.
Again thanks for your photos & writings, I have for the first time replied or made notes of any journey for myself. I have only dreamed of doing what you have done.
As I grow older, I think of it more. I feel you are a great writer. (my downfall is writing, I am a numbers type of guy & my old friends suggest I get my life history published or made into a movie – Life for me has not been easy – but is what movies are made of & is full of twist!!!!)
You inspire me.
Ralph
When we came back from a 10-day trip to Italy, it took me two weeks to get back to “real life” and to really focus at work. But your journey has been so wonderful and varied that it’s more than work the stresses you might feel when you get back home. Keep that bottle of pinot noir handy!
Can you believe July is almost over? Where did it go? And I shouldn’t complain as I had 2 of the four weeks off to travel on vacation.
I can understand the mixed feelings– the pull between two different ways of living life.
Time sure flies by so fast when you are having fun,
I hope you won’t feel you need another vacation after your summer journey, as what people tend to say after a stressful vacation.
I thank you for sharing your experiences, for being candid. It is as if I have traveled with you too, through your photos. Its as if I can feel the wind blowing in my hair and smell the scent of the sea breeze with your photos.
Take care.
