Saturday Scavenger Photo Hunt – “Paper”

Newspaper Rock, is one of the largest and best-known petroglyph panels in Utah. It is located about twelve miles west of U.S. Highway 191 between Monticello and Moab, on the paved road that leads to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park.
The panel contains hundreds of figures and shapes believed to be carved over the past 1,500 to 2,000 years.
The original artists were likely prehistoric people of the Archaic, Basketmaker, Fremont or Pueblo cultures. More recently, Navajo, Ute and Anglos have added petroglyphs to the many panels. In Navajo the rock is called Tse’ Hane, or “rock that tells a story.”

that’s amazing! thanks for the info. great take on the theme!
that’s fantastic. I’ve seen petroglyphs before, but not so many in one spot in such detail. what a great entry.
What a great take on the theme. I’ve never been to Utah but this alone would make it worth the trip.
That is more grand, more historical and colorful than the petroglyph I have seen in a secured site East of the Metro which we visited two years ago. Or maybe, you just take better photos than me, LOL!
How is Cali, the dear dog, doing?
Have a great weekend, Cheryl.
That is so cool! Here’s to your Cali… hope she is all better!
That is very cool!
I love petroglyphs. We’ve seen some in Hawaii, Arizona, and right here in California. I’m always so drawn to them because of their mystery and history. This is a great photo.
Wow, this is seriously amazing! I’ve never heard of it before! I love learning new things from you
