Where Does the Time Go?

I’ve returned to work after my (ahem) “vacation” so to speak, and just as I predicted I’m inundated with “things to do” that no one did in my absence. However, I’m happy to be back – just terribly busy for the time being. I’ve “made the rounds” of visiting schools. The day after I visited one of the high schools there was a news release regarding one of the students had been treated for a staph infection. Due to privacy concerns, the type of staph infection wasn’t reported to the public. A couple of days later two more students at a different high school were reported to have staph infections also. (These were athletic department related.) Yep, I’ve recently been to that high school also. I don’t think I’m being paranoid, but I bought a large bottle of hand sanitizer to keep in my car.
In the world of Flickr, I received this message recently:
“I am writing to let you know that three of your photos have been short-listed for inclusion in the fourth edition of our Schmap Portland Guide, to be published later this month.”
If my photos are included, I’ll receive credit, but no monetary gain. I suppose it’s fine, and gave my permission.
I’m all “signed up” and paid to take a New Year’s cruise on the Mexican Riviera with my friend Mavis. After much discussion, we decided to book a veranda (balcony) as a guarantee. (In the world of cruises, the word guarantee is misleading because it means we’ve booked a veranda, but if the upgrade fairy is kind we may get a better room.) It will be my third time at the “Big O.” Uh, I mean my third cruise on the Oosterdam.
(Just a little cruise humor…) Mavis is keen on doing a “dolphin trainer” excursion in Cabo San Lucas, and I think I’ll wander up to Todos Santos. (It’s the hotel site of Hotel California that inspired the Eagles.) We’ve already book an excursion for horseback riding on the beach in Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta is up for grabs. I’m really looking forward to the cruise and have already started buying clothing items I don’t need!
The weather here is cool and blustery – autumn is finally coming to the desert.

the staph infection is probably MRSA? frightening….the cruise sounds fantastic….glad you have cool weather finally…enjoy it…good to have a post from you….show us your photos that they are using in the Portland publication…congratulations…
The cruise sounds great. I’m assuming we’ll be seeing lots of photos!
We’re having quite the MRSA stir around here too. It’s nothing to mess around with!
Congrats on the photo being used. One of mine is being used too, but no royalties either- oh well, it’s a start!
The cruise sounds fantastic! I’m so envious.
That’s a lovely yellow rose. Made me smile this morning.
And I totally don’t blame you for carrying around hand sanitizer. A morning show yesterday shared all the germs that women carry around on their handbags that end up on kitchen counters and dining room tables and the like. Totally grossed me out. I don’t carry a purse and even if I carry a bag I never put it on a public bathroom floor. The whole thing made me go home and scrub out the bags I do use including the diaper bag for W.W. bleh.
Wow, the cruise sounds great. You’ll have to share pictures of horseback riding on the beach in Mazatlan.
Congratulations on having your photos published.
Wow, what a wonderful way to spend the New Year. You will feel invigorated and refreshed after that trip. Good that you have a hand sanitizer, we always carry a bottle of alcohol with us, in my bag and in the car. Plus wet tissues just in case.
I know someone who went to Mazatlan for their honeymoon and the house they built was Mexican-inspired.
Take care, Cheryl. Don’t forget to use the hand sanitizers,
