Manic Monday

Published by Desert Diva under Memes

Manic Monday is hosted by Fleur de Lisa

What is the sexiest part of the body?

  • The eyes - the windows to the soul…

If you kissed a frog, who would you like it to turn into?

  • I don’t think I could get over the initial kissing of a frog, no matter what it turned into!

What do you have stuck up on your refrigerator right now?

  • Assorted refrigerator magnets, hair appointment card, the usual “stuff.”

Truth or Consequences…

Tomorrow it’s “back to the grind,” as my Spring Break is over. I can’t say I’m ready to go back to work, and without having a “designated destination” I feel I piddled my time off away.

Yesterday, I took another drive up to Truth or Consequences (locally known as “T or C”). Before I went for my hot mineral soak, I wandered around in the downtown area. The vibrancy of the town is a thing of the past - it’s more of a refuge for serious artists and selected individuals who want to escape from the mainstream of life.

The town is built over an natural aquifer of geothermal springs (flowing at an estimated rate of 99 liters/second) - where once Chiricahua Apache leader Geronimo sought refuge after his battles. At one time there were over forty natural hot spring bath houses, but now there are approximately twelve (with a couple in renovation). My personal favorite is Riverbend Hot Springs, since the pools are outdoors.

Ralph Edwards created the popular game show “Truth or Consequences,” and in 1950 the little town of Hot Springs formally adopted the name of the popular radio show. For the next fifty years, Edwards would visit the town for the “Fiesta” in his honor. Not as quiet as the current of the underground geothermal springs is the art of Delmas Howe, who still resides and works in T or C. Although famous for his series “Rodeo Pantheon,” much more controversial and striking is his series “Stations: A Gay Passion.” Viewing some of Howe’s work from Stations, one can easily see the inspiration for the episodes in the early episodes in the L-Word involving “Provocations.”

All-in-all, T or C is a seemingly sleepy town. However, there are currents of energy running beneath the surface…

Saturday Scavenger Photo Hunt - “High”

Zion National Park
Last summer on my yearly “sojourn,” I visited Zion National Park.  After a day of hiking in the park, the evening light caught part of one of the spectacular rock formations within the park.  It was a “high” experience in more than one sense of the word…

  1. Some relationships are meant to be short - really short.
  2. I can’t remember the last concert I saw; it was obviously not worth mentioning.
  3. Spring should be celebrated as a season of new life.
  4. Oh no! I forgot to get married again!
  5. I’ve recently started hot yoga (well, next Monday).
  6. Children at play never fail to make me smile.
  7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dancing the two-step, tomorrow my plans include a little shopping and Sunday, I want to go to the ballroom tea dance!

The Beauty in the Ordinary…

Wishing for summer...

I remember the day I took this photo.  It was early August and I was driving home after traveling for the summer.  I was within a few miles of the Colorado/New Mexico border and a gentle rain was falling.  I passed by the sunflower field and as soon as I saw a space I turned the RV around.  Cali romped in the field while I photographed in the soft rain.  Words such as “what a blessing” don’t commonly flow from me, but there are no other words I have to describe the experience.

This afternoon at about 2:00 p.m., I made myself “get up and get out” of the house.  Cali must know when I don’t feel well - she spent the time pressed up against me and would periodically lick my hand for reassurance.  I had a salad with tuna for lunch, and then came to Spirit Winds (my favorite coffee shop/WiFi hangout) for a double skinny latte.   The place was packed.  Apparently, not everyone had travel plans for Spring Break.  A couple with their small child looked at me strangely as I’m still coughing a bit.  (I’m not contagious - as I said previously it’s allergies.) I suppose I could take another hit on the Albuterol, but since I’m not wheezing I feel OK.

Tonight is “ballroom dance” night, but I’m not sure if I’m up to going.  I had forgotten it’s a “formal” dance, and I’m feeling pretty “battered” trying to cover up the cryotherapy (which are nice and “crusty” now) from the dermatologist.  Tomorrow is Friday and my precious Spring Break is gone - never to be regained.  At least I’m feeling better…
