Wired
Lately, I’ve been “wired” in Portland. I’m somewhat amazed at the choices for coffee (skinny latte please) and Internet access. The two seem to go hand-in-hand and are around every corner. Portland seems to take coffee and computers seriously… My favorite so far is the Fresh Pot on Hawthorne. I think I’ll adopt their slogan: “My life is beautiful, and coffee is my life.”
The coffee is bold and strong with beans from Stumptown Coffee Roasters.
Speaking of coffee, I recently picked up a used copy of Michael Gates Gill’s, “How Starbuck’s Saved My Life.” Oh please, someone pass the box of tissues. I find no “revelation” in the story of a man who f*cked away his fortune, cheated on his wife by having a child with his mistress, and then feels “cheated.” Join the human race Mr. Gill, I think the term is “Karma.” Although the book says he is still working as a barista, I find that simply hard to believe since he is “promoted” by the Lavin Agency and has supposedly sold movie rights (Tom Hanks) for his story.
I think Mr. Gill may have been “down on his luck” and began as a barista, but certainly knows how to “land on his feet” so to speak. I seriously doubt that he is “pumping espresso” except for show and to promote “Bucky’s.”

OK, that cup of coffee totally has a leaf pattern on it from the milk. Very cool.
Just goes to show, you can sell a book about anything!
Glad you are enjoying your coffee. I love a skinny latte myself.
That is so pretty with the leaf pattern. I have seen some pretty amazing designs from my little ol’ coffee shop back in TX.
I like a skinny white mocha latte ( I guess after the white mocha it really isn’t all that skinny!)
I think I’ll have to read that one!
You know when I lived in Seattle I never experienced a “wired” community before. When I traveled through Oregon to visit family I saw similar practices. I swear it’s the weather than keeps the caffeine coming in all shapes and sizes.
