At times, I’m overwhelmed by the state of the world we live in – disease, hunger, greed, etc… all seem to be the rule rather than the exception. What can I do when I feel helpless to make even the tiniest impact? Shelly, over at This Eclectic Life has a project that I’m contributing to in a small way. I’m sending her some small milagros and other “charms” to fill some tiny medicine bags that she and some cyber friends are making to give to children with cancer at Camp Sanguinity next summer.
So, I’m posting this request so that all “five readers” of my weblog can offer their “skills and talents” and/or just send some charms to help Shelly out with her project.
A medicine bag is an ancient item that spiritually represents the person who wears it. The medicine bag is known in all cultures and through out all of history. They contain objects such as leaves, feathers, stones, herbs such as sweetgrass, sage, cedar, lavender or pinion, and other objects which have been added by the wearer and considered spiritually significant.
Medicine bags can be as small as 1 inch by 1 inch or as large as 30 inches in length. They are typically made of leather and you can purchase such a bag to make your own .
The reasons to carry a medicine are for guidance, healing and protection. Most medicine bags contain a quartz crystal as one of its objects. Quartz energy resonates with all the energies of the physical body and is considered a remarkable healing stone. It connects you to your spiritual self.
You know, I have a little leather medicine bag that I bought when I first moved to New Mexico. I think I’ll keep one of the milagros that pertains to “arms” and start wearing it. Hey – it can’t hurt…

Have you ever returned an item to a store for a refund after having used it?
Only if I was allergic to it or it had a “flaw.” The other day I returned a jar of SPF 30 Elta sunscreen because it was a weird consistency and lumpy. The dermatologist traded it for a new one.
You are going out for the evening. If your partner objects to what you are wearing, would you change your clothing?
Absolutely not – that’s so “high school.”
What item that you don’t currently possess would you most like to have in your home?
I have some older yucky original carpeting in my master bedroom and satillo tile throughout the rest of the house. I’d like to replace the yucky carpet with satillo tile.
