What’s the best summer job you ever had?

  • Well, it wasn’t actually a job because I didn’t get paid.  I volunteered to work at a youth hostel in Truro, Massachusetts one summer.  I only had to work there twelve hours a week and got a room gratis.  I worked part-time “up the road” at an organic fruit and vegetable summer market and did some baby sitting.  One of my “clients” was Anne Tyler.  It was one of the most relaxing summers I’ve ever spent…

Tell me about the worst date you ever went on.

  • How much space do I have?  ;-)   It was probably a double date that I went on with my sister because she was interested in someone that “had a friend.”  Ugh…

Do you think the age for a driver’s license should be raised (currently 16 here in the U.S.)?

  • No, I think sixteen is fine – but I like the “old days” where you took a class in high school and did driver’s training with school staff. I still have fond memories of driver’s training with the radio turned up to the Four Top’s singing “I Can’t Help Myself” (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch).  Yes, that was a L-O-N-G time ago…

Describe to me your favorite lounging clothes.

  • It’s like the Beach Boys song – cut offs (OK, shorts), tee shirt, pair of thongs…

If you promised to never lie again in your lifetime, in what area would it be hardest to uphold the promise?

  • To tell someone the truth where the information would be devastating.

Give a one word answer to the question “why is life worth living”.

Do you recycle? Why or why not?

  • Clothing – yes, other stuff – no.  I think it would be different if I lived in a “green” area where recycling was encouraged.

Would you rather be a pirate or a prince/princess?

  • My late father’s pet name for me was “Princess.”  Need I say more?

Are you into astrology? If yes, how does it affect your life?

  • I think it’s interesting to read and I had my chart done a long time ago in P-town while on vacation.  However, I don’t have any real belief in astrology.

Happy Easter!

Published by Desert Diva under Journal

It seems almost like Christmas was yesterday and now it’s Easter.  I spent my day quietly, since I’m still recovering from my wrist surgery last Wednesday.  There was no ham dinner, Easter basket, or chocolate bunnies at  Casa de Desert Diva.

However, there’s the undercurrent of spring’s new life bubbling up from around and within.  The joy of Easter seems to have gone by the wayside for a number of years.  I do remember standing in a full church many years ago and truly beliving in the resurrection.  I often wonder what happened to that joyous faith-filled moment.  The obvious answer is “life.”  The life that one lives is sometimes devoid of personal attention.  We often forget (or ignore) the wellsprings that feed our souls, and one day wake up feeling – well, empty.

I believe now because I “choose” to believe.  However, I’m slowly becoming more attentive to my spiritual life and want to move toward a day where my “believing” will become second nature.

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting-
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

How often do you change your toothbrush?

  • Usually I change my toothbrush when the batteries start to wear down – its one of those you buy.  However, the ADA says you should change it ever three months!  Surprisingly enough, that’s usually how long the batteries last.

What is your favorite item of clothing to shop for?

  • Are shoes considered a clothing item?  If not, they should be!

Do you use social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)? Which do you use most often?

  • Facebook drove me crazy.  Too many little games to play online made it too time consuming for me.  I do like to Twitter though…
