Happy Easter!
Peep Show!
I’ve never been fond of Peeps. Yes, they’re cute in an Easter Basket and fun to look at but the taste leave something to be desired. An RV site suggested using them in s’mores for travelers. There’s something just wrong about squashing a burned toasted Peep with some chocolate and graham crackers.
I was going to take some time off and travel to a dance rally in Bandera, Texas. However, I worked seven weeks for an hour and a half in a program called SEMAA and made $600.00. The total cost of the trip (which I’d have to hurry to get back to work) would cost approximately what I made. So now my backyard is cleaned up with some new landscaping.
The sad news is that our school will be “restructured” for the 2012-2013 school year, based on an “F” from the NM Department of Education earlier this year from the standardized testing that grades 3-5 take. The irony is that I teach 2nd grade and our informal test scores (all of 2nd grade) showed the most gain for the whole school. People are angry and sad. As for me, this is my 30th year and I’m retiring July 1st. Besides, I’ve only been there a year…
I have my own opinions, but rather than be “dooced” will keep them to myself in this public forum. What I “will” say is that our school is probably the lowest socio-economic school in the district with 100% free lunch, and all of the assorted problems that go along with that situation. While sometimes difficult, life is what you make of it. Sometimes, the stormiest clouds have “silver linings.”
Whether you celebrate the resurrection of Christ or the renewal of new life on the earth, I wish everyone a very Happy Easter!

My husband loves Peeps! Not sure why – they are disgustingly sweet and no chocolate!
It’s so sad what is happening to schools. I don’t understand how people think we can continue cutting funding for schools, and yet expect they to continue to raise their scores. These poor kids are only getting education in memorizing facts for tests.
