El Jebel, Colorado…
Wow, what a trip! I made myself “stay home” today so I could upload my photos to Flickr and post to my blog. OK, in all honesty it could have been the fact that the group went kayaking again today. My last kayaking “experience” resulted in my dumping out three times. There was one rapid after another, and the kayaks took on water every time. Almost everyone dumped at least one time on the float, and several caught up to my “number.” Thank God a half dozen women got out of the water before Cemetery Rapids where most of the folks who didn’t spill the whole trip had their “turn.” In all fairness to myself, my kayak is longer (made for lakes and easy rivers) and was somewhat hard to handle in fast water and rapids.
Regardless, I’m having a good time. I’ve been hiking and trying to ease my sixty year old body into better shape. It’s hot during the day, but nights are cool and comfortable. There is a restaurant/tavern a short walk from where our rigs are parked. EVERY DAY they have a happy hour from five to six with Miller draft, well drinks, and wine for $1.00. Needless to say, a “rowdy bunch” has frequented the establishment more than once!
There’s a free bus to Aspen and/or Glenwood Springs and I did go to church for the first time in quite a while. The Episcopal Church in Aspen is small, quaint, and lovely. After some time of neglect, I feel I’m beginning to “feed my spirit.”
