The Flip Side to Fun…

Sometimes summer fun has a flip side.  When a series of “not so fun” things happen, it seems to wear upon you and one begins to wonder if it’s time to “turn tail” and go home.

After getting my passenger side vent window fixed to the tune of $175.00 (which by the way won’t open now), I found some shade in Bend and proceeded to putter around on my RV by replacing the covers on my speakers by trying to glue them.  (It turned out to be a combination of glue and black duct tape, but they stay in place now!)

Cali was near the RV, but as always she has her “nose” into the sights and smells of the outdoors.  All of a sudden she comes up to me and she’s bleeding profusely from her mouth.  I get some cotton pads and hydrogen peroxide and swab out her mouth to try and see where she’s bleeding.  There was so much bleeding I called a vet in Bend and they told me to take her to XYZ vet clinic where she could be seen.

When I got there the vet wanted to sedate her, and said she probably got into something called “cheek grass.”  However, she said they were closing in a half hour and she didn’t want her techs to stay overtime.  She then told me to  take her to the “emergency” vet clinic.

Uh, I’m sorry.  My dog is bleeding and you want me to take her someplace else?  I was livid to say the least.  The bleeding had almost stopped so I calmed myself down and got out the cotton pads and hydrogen peroxide and took another look.  The cut was on her gum and tongue and I cleaned the area, and gave her a Benadryl.  (She has allergies and has taken Benadryl before on the advice of the vet, but I knew the Benadryl would make her calmer and sleepy.)  I think she cut her gum and tongue on the cheek grass, but it also irritated her throat.  She coughs about once a day and I get her to drink some water and she’s better now.

Yesterday we went to a fundraiser for a “bath and brew,” (bath for Cali and brew for me) for $10.00.  Since we left Las Cruces, I have noticed a slight tremor in her back legs after running around.  (No tremor when she’s just in the RV.)  I don’t know if it’s excitement or exertion from running.  She runs and jumps fine, so I’ll have her checked out by her vet in Las Cruces when we return home.

On another note, I got reamed out by some neanderthal at a Moose lodge before I could go inside to pay to park.  I was exhausted and he was rude to say the least.  What a hateful SOB.   Most of the other Moose lodges I’ve been to have been gracious and welcoming.  I guess there has to be one a$$hat in the bunch.  :-)

Last night I looked forward to going ballroom dancing.  The paper said the lesson would be the Nightclub Two Step which I’ve seen (and done a little) but would love to learn.  When the lesson started the instructor said the lesson would be the Salsa.  I “swear” all I said (and nicely) that the paper said the lesson would be the NC2S.  He retorted with a “tirade” about that was what he had been contracted to do and if I didn’t want to take the lesson I didn’t have to.  I don’t think I deserved that rude of a response.  I “am” going to contact the dance club and report him – there’s just no reason for rudeness like that.

So, I’m feeling a little “rough around the edges” at the moment.  My “fun meter” is hovering around zero.

I hope your dog feels better and that sucks that the vet gets you in and then tells you that you have to go to the emergency vet! I think once you get the the Oregon Coast, you’ll feel refreshed. People are so rude, don’t let them get you down as it is their problem not yours. Hope you have a better day.
