Winter Solstice…

Today is the Winter Solstice – the shortest day of the year…

I’m up early, as I’m driving to Yuma for Christmas, and then on to San Diego for the New Year.  For the past few days, I’ve been thinking about Christmas, family, and life in general.  Some memories are happy, and some – well not so much…

To be honest, I don’t have many fond memories of Christmas.  The memories I have of my father and Christmas are sad ones.  He was ill many of those years and eventually passed away in 1966.  One year I remember him crying after the Salvation Army brought toys to our house.  He was devastated that he was ill and couldn’t work and provide those things for our family.

The past is the past, and we only have the present…

Christmas comes and goes.  Every year I find that I want to find that “perfect” holiday.  And, of course the answer is there “is” no perfect Christmas (or any holiday for that matter).

So, I’m on my way today to Yuma to spend Christmas with an RV group in the middle of the desert.  The sleigh RV is loaded up for a simple holiday with friends.  We’ll sit by a bonfire on Christmas Eve, and have a big Christmas dinner (and dance a little) in the VFW on Christmas Day.  A couple of days later, I travel “over the hill” to San Diego for the New Year’s Tango Festival.

As for gifts, I have everything I need…

I wish you simple joy and peace this Christmas…

Safe travels! Wishing you a Happy Christmas. It is just a day that you spend with those you enjoy being with, perhaps listen to some Christmas music and sit in the glow of a sting of colored lights. What else do you need. Be happy.
